When you walk into someone’s home, typically the decor incorporates a lot of light colors, like white or black to brighten up the space. It’s a classic choice and is a great route to take! But, for my house, I knew I wanted something a bit deeper and richer in color. I’m no stranger to dark moody spaces, and knew I wanted moody home office decor in this house. I wanted more depth, character, and a sense of sophistication to this workspace instead of a more common neutral aesthetic. Here are three style tips for integrating moody decor into your home office.

Moody Home Office Decor

This space was actually one of the VERY first rooms I tackled when we moved into this house 19 months ago! It was top priority to create an office space for my husband, since we works from home. I started with installing the tongue and groove ceiling and starting phase 1 of the moody office makeover. I have slowly been adding to and rearranging this space and hope to officially start phase 2 this year!

One of the big things I love about our home office is that it also doubles as our guest room when we have visitors. It’s separate from the main house, has it’s own bathroom and closet and is perfect for visitors to have their own space. I’ll give you a rundown on how we transform it into a guest room soon! I really hope to have the murphy bed system in soon to make it even more seamless.

Tips For Creating a Moody Office Space

Rich Neutral Tones

When it comes to choosing colors for your home office, there is so much more beyond the typical whites and neutrals! I’m talking about diving into deep, rich shades like navy blue, forest green, charcoal gray, or even a bold burgundy. These colors aren’t just easy on the eyes; they bring a cozy, intimate vibe to your workspace that’s perfect for focus and concentration.

Don’t forget to add different textures to spruce up your space. I added a leather chair with a wooden desk to add depth and dimension to this space and LOVED how it turned out! These textured elements aren’t just for show; they bring a whole new level of depth and coziness to the room. Picture sinking your feet into a plush area rug or running your fingers along velvet curtains – it’s all about those little moments of comfort, you know?

One of my favorite aspects of decorating my home office is playing with accent colors, especially gold. Adding accent colors like gold or brass can truly elevate the moody aesthetic and inject a hint of luxury into the space! I adore incorporating gold accents through various accessories, like our cherished gold picture frames and elegant lamp. Think about it: that warm metallic hue of gold plays off the deep, dark tones like a dream, creating this visual contrast that’s both striking and inviting. Whether it’s through desk accessories, picture frames, or decorative objects, these golden touches add both a stylish and inviting aesthetic to your home office.
