Whats the point of Music Knowledge?

Other than just making the mml scrolls I compose harder to play correctly?
Seems if I just want to play my mmls, I should skip Music Knowledge altogether and just rank up Compose & Play. Wont a r5 Play have better odds of playing a mml right if its a scroll at r-Nothing difficulty(no Music Knowledge), vs a r5 Play and r5 Music Knowledge difficulty scroll?

You also need to advance it to be able to advance Play Instrument and Sing, otherwise you'll just keep failing and won't get the success credits to advance those skills. As for compose, yes, not having the skill when you compose a scroll makes it nearly impossible to fail at it. In this vein, I had one of my alt characters only advance compose, and nothing else, in order to make jamming scrolls.

"failing and won't get the success credits to advance those skills"
But ranking Play is done by LuteBonking noob foxes in rookietown (Tir & EastPhilly), and spamming Enduring/Harvest at home or wherever.. aint it? No need to attempt playing MML scrolls to rank up Play. Plus, LuteBonking can help with CriticalHit if we still ranking that up on the side.
I'm not interested in the bard skills, nor am I interested in Cooking,
nor running dungeons / grinding stuff to get a drop,
but it seems cooking for monkeys, molesting kiwi, and hoping exploration drops the right mc'guffins for Voight books is the way to compose longer MMLs. Looks like I can only get to r9 Compose before the annoying requirements kick in.I installed the game in begging of July
the ~EasyButton~ play gave me r1 Elf Ranged, r1 Magnum, r1 Bowmaster in 4 days.
While those skills will make other tasks a lot easier (than having r8 combat skills), I dont see how ranking Compose helps or simplifies other tasks in game so much. Why is Compose so much harder to rank vs spam-murdering noob foxes to rank combat skills to r1? -

When you are ranking play instrument and singing, to get a Very Good result the music has to be considered challenging. Challenging is defined by the level of Musical Knowledge that the scroll was written at. It's been years since I ranked those skills, so I can't remember for sure but if you play default tune (no scroll) then their difficulty is based on your current music knowledge ... I think.

9:30 login with r5 Play
spam rF Harvest at homestead, Lute-bonk some noobfoxes
10:30 ranked r1 Play
Is that something to be proud of?
Is there a sense of accomplishment in getting r1 ?
I dont think so... Seems the game is just handing out the win without much effort. Skills directly or indirectly used for combat seem super easy to rank, but Compose is a bother to rank and isnt used for anything other than writing longer MML -

This easier path is probably the result of lazy folks whining, as is usual. Ranking the skill may also give stat boosts; the wiki should say.
